Garden Catering is a small deli with various locations in Connecticut and New York. Instead of occasional McDonald’s treats like many children get, I grew up with the occasional trip down the road to the Garden Catering in Old Greenwich, CT. This tradition has lasted throughout my college years, and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon.
The menus here have grown immensely to feature dozens of different types of food (including healthy options!), but locals know to order the classics. Among these classics are the Junior or High School Specials (different sized bags of chicken nuggets & fries or potato cones… or both), a Bacon Egg and Cheese with Cones (shown above), or better yet a Hotsy (the same sandwich but with chilli as well), a Garden Wrap (chicken nuggets, cones, american cheese & honey mustard), and of course the notorious iced coffee, which probably has a day’s worth of calories in it. Going to Garden is definitely a special occasion; eating this type of food would be overwhelming on a regular basis. It’s a staple to my town and also my childhood, and my friends and I all agree that it’s one of the first stops we make when coming home from college for a break. If you are ever in Greenwich (multiple locations), Stamford, Port Chester, Mamaroneck, Fairfield, or Norwalk, I would strongly advise you to make it a point to visit Garden Catering.
