I posted a little while ago about different college-budget friendly restaurants in Richmond. I added Carytown Burger & Fries to the list, but noted that I surprisingly had not yet been. Finally, I had the pleasure of attending the burger joint yesterday afternoon. Andy and I were both rather indulgent and ordered mozzarella sticks to start, and then each our own specialty burger. We quickly realized that we would have been plenty full having only ordered one burger to split, but we didn’t regret our choices.
I ordered the Bacon Cheddar Melt, without “The Works” (lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, pickles and onions). Grilled mushrooms and onions, as well as copious amounts of cheddar and two strips of crisp bacon cover this delicious patty. I was worried that upon ordering, I was not asked how I like my burger cooked. Overdone burgers are one of my biggest pet peeves, but I was pleased to see that they cooked it just right: charred on the outside but pink in the middle. Andy ordered the “Big Mike,” which is described as “”MAC” ain’t got nothin’ on this bad boy! Two 1/3-lb. patties, 1000 Island, lettuce, pickles & onion on a sesame seed bun!” We were both painfully full by the end, but overly satisfied with our midday decision to indulge.
