So I know it’s not the prettiest, which I blame on improper cooking ware, but imagine layers upon layers of oozing cheesy pepperoni pizza in the form of a cake. Indulgent heaven. When Pillsbury came out with this recipe, I saw their pizza cake photo circulating on many popular websites and social media pages. I knew I had to try making it at some point. I made it as a present to a good friend of mine on her birthday, and it was a hit! How could it not be..
Notes on the recipe: I tend to have trouble with pizza dough.. even when it’s pre-made. I didn’t have a rolling pin so I improvised with a bottle of wine (worked pretty well!) The circles I cut out using a bowl to trace did not come out that well (very misshapen), but it didn’t really end up mattering. I also did not have a proper dish, and ended up just using a deep sauce pan, which was a little too tall and narrow. In order to make it a little shorter and fatter, I took it out of the pan about 8 minutes early and let it finish baking without a structure around it. As a result, the somewhat ugly shape pictured above happened, and the crust kind of fell apart. Other than that, the actual recipe is surprisingly simple and despite what it looked like, it still tasted as you would suspect: like layers upon layers of oozing cheesy pepperoni pizza in the form of a cake. Definitely a fun recipe to try!
